Plumbing Tips for First-Time Homeowners

If you’re a first-time homeowner, dealing with the world of plumbing can be overwhelming. From understanding how your plumbing system works to knowing when to call a professional, there’s a lot to learn. Here are a few essential tips to help you keep your plumbing in check:

  • Know Where Your Main Water Shut-Off Valve Is: In case of an emergency, knowing where your main water shut-off valve is can prevent extensive water damage. Make sure everyone in your household knows how to access it.
  • Don’t Use Chemical Drain Cleaners: While they may offer a quick fix, chemical drain cleaners can damage your pipes over time. Instead, use a plunger or a drain snake, or call a plumber for assistance.
  • Inspect Your Pipes Often: Keep an eye out for signs of leaks, like damp spots on walls, a musty smell, or a drastic increase in your water bill. Early detection can save you from costly plumbing repairs in Gibsonia.
  • Invest in Premium Fixtures: Investing in high-quality faucets, showerheads, and toilets can save you money by reducing water usage and preventing frequent repairs.

Managing Plumbing Issues Related to the Weather

Weather conditions can change a lot throughout the year. During the winter months, one of the most common problems is frozen pipes. When liquid water inside your pipes freezes, it expands and causes the pipes to burst. To prevent this, it’s important to insulate your pipes, especially those that are in unheated spaces like basements, attics, and garages. If you suspect a pipe has frozen, don’t wait for it to burst. Schedule a plumbing service in Gibsonia immediately. Heavy rains and storms can also wreak havoc on your plumbing system. Flooded basements, backed-up sewer lines, and overflowing gutters are just a few of the issues that can arise during severe weather. To protect your property, make sure your drainage systems are functioning properly, and install a sump pump if you don’t have one already. When the weather warms up, tree roots can invade your underground pipes, leading to blockages and leaks. If you notice slow drains, gurgling sounds, or foul odors, it could be a sign of a root intrusion. At Mr. Rooter Plumbing, we use advanced techniques like video camera inspections to locate and remove root blockages without digging up your yard.

Upgrading Plumbing Fixtures for Better Efficiency

Consider replacing old, inefficient fixtures with modern, eco-friendly alternatives. Low-flow toilets, water-saving showerheads, and touchless faucets are just a few options that can make a major difference. For businesses, upgrading to high-efficiency fixtures can lead to substantial savings on utility bills, especially in businesses with high water usage, such as restaurants or hotels. Our plumbers in Gibsonia can assess your current fixtures and recommend the best options for your needs. In addition to reducing water usage, upgrading your plumbing fixtures can improve the overall performance of your system. For example, modern faucets and showerheads are designed to maintain consistent water pressure, even during peak usage times. This means you’ll enjoy a more comfortable experience while using less water.

Our toilet started leaking right after my spouse went out of town and I was left home alone with a newborn. I had called another company and they couldn't get out until the following week, however, Mr. Rooter got someone out within 2 hours, and it was fixed a couple hours after that! The technician, Chris, was really professional and courteous, and I feel as though the price was quite reasonable. Really happy with the service and we'll be using Mr. Rooter in the future!

I'm very impressed with Mr. Rooter. I was smelling a small amount of gas randomly throughout my kitchen area. The office answered my call and said they would put me on the schedule for the same day and someone would call later with a specific time. The office called back a few hours later and said a technician would be there within the hour. The technician they sent was named Ryan and he could not have been any better. Friendly from the moment I opened the door and informative throughout the process. He thoroughly tested the whole area for gas and finally determined the leak was coming from a connection point at the wall. He discussed all of my options and pricing before he did any of the work.  In the end, he corrected the leak and gave me further quotes for work we may want to consider in the future. Ryan was not pushy in any way and I agreed with his recommendations during the repair. He also worked until very late in the evening to make sure it was done right. Much appreciated and I will definitely use Mr. Rooter for my future plumbing needs.
